Culture+Conflict – Bisan Abu-Eisheh

Palestinian artist Bisan Abu-Eisheh‘s work draws on a range of material including his own family’s experiences to explore history and politics. During a residency at Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen in 2016, Abu-Eisheh uncovered some of his parents’ letters in which they lament the failure of their utopian, Communist dreams, and asked members of the audience to read out English translations. He is currently artist in residence at Culture+Conflict. Abu-Eisheh will be in conversation with curator Michaela Crimmin.

Bisan Abu-Eisheh is currently artist in residence at Culture+Conflict Artist in residence at the Liddle Hart Colonial Archive, Kings College, London.  His work looks at history and politics often drawing on his personal history and that of his own family. His work has featured in recent exhibiton including: Don’t You Think It Is Time For Love? MMoMA, Moscow, Russia (2016). Jerusalem Show VIII: Before and After Origins, Jerusalem, Palestine (2016). Greetings to Those Who Asked About Me, CIC, Cairo, Egypt (2015). Abu-Eisheh currently lives between Glasgow and Jerusalem.

Michaela Crimmin is co-director of Culture+Conflict. She is also an independent curator and writer; and is on the academic staff of the Royal College of Art (RCA) where she teaches in the School of Humanities and has been leading a research programme, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, to build connections between academia, artists and curators, and activists working on the role of art in the context of conflict. She lectures nationally and internationally.
