Caitlin McLeod directs a reading of Sabra Falling by Ismail Khalidi.

“Mother Courage would have loved Beirut.”

It is August 1982 and Beirut is under siege. In the Sabra refugee camp the specter of a massacre looms as the Akawi family receives an unexpected visitor that brings the past rushing back and alters the course of events to come.

Sabra Falling is a darkly witty and powerful play about the dangerous theatre of life and war.

Ismail Khalidi is a playwright, actor and author. Born in Beirut to Palestinian parents and raised in Chicago, his plays include Truth Serum Blues (Pangea World Theater, 2005), Tennis in Nablus and Final Status. Tennis in Nablus premiered at Atlanta’s Alliance Theater in 2010, where it was nominated for a Suzi Bass Award, and will receive its New York City premiere in 2014 at the Culture Project. Khalidi is currently co-editing an anthology of Palestinian plays. Sabra Falling was commissioned as part of Pangea World Theater’s Alternate Visions Series and developed in part due to the generous support of Mizna’s Writer-in-Residency program.

Caitlin McLeod has directed three critically acclaimed sell out productions at the Finborough Theatre. She was the winner of the prestigious Buzz Goodbody award for Best Director, and Trainee Director at the Royal Court Theatre from 2011-2012.
