Open Garden Squares Weekend

17/06/17 11am18/06/17 6pm

Originally conceived in 2015 as a pop-up garden by SmallWorld Urbanism, a collective of award-winning designers, architects and permaculturists, this now two-year-old garden has been replenished and replanted as a urban green space, behind The Mosaic Rooms Gallery.

It features a layered modular garden planted as a seasonal summer cottage garden on beds made of commonly discarded materials. In an age when our cities and public places are seemingly lost to an endless swathe of development, this project highlights the positive change that gardening can bring in reclaiming space for the public.

On display in the gallery is an exhibition by UK based artist Judy Price presenting a unique and complex body of work focused on Palestine. Two multi-screen installations and a photographic piece reflect in very different ways on Palestine’s colonial past and the current lived experience of occupation.

Visitors to the garden will be able to enjoy food by London’s first Saj street stall. Bliss St. will be serving up freshly baked saj made with the freshest ingredients. Saj is a staple street food which originates from villages and towns across the Levant, mainly in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Palestine and consists of a thin & flat round bread freshly baked on a metal dome, also known as a saj. While baking, a mix of fresh toppings are added such as zaatar, halloumi and lamb, resulting in a freshly baked, warm and delicious delicacy that can be enjoyed at any time of the day.

Hot and cold drinks will be available from our cafe.

Open Garden Squares Weekend is organised by the London Parks & Gardens Trust (LPGT), who work to protect and promote London’s green open spaces.

Open Saturday 17th June 11:00–18:00 + Sunday 18th June 11:00–18:00
