The Cairo We Lost

30/08/17 7pm

Join Omniya Abdel Barr, co-founder of the Save Cairo campaign, as she discusses the richly varied architectural heritage of this dynamic city and the current fight to prevent the further destruction of its memories and what remains of its past.

Omniya Abdel Barr is an Egyptian architect, specialising in conservation of historic towns and buildings. She started her architectural studies at the Beaux Arts of Cairo, and then pursued a master’s degree in architectural conservation from the Raymond Lemaire International Centre for Conservation in KUL. She received her PhD from Aix-Marseille University, where she studied Cairo’s medieval architectural history. Omniya is a c0-founding member of SAVE CAIRO and Heliopolis Heritage Initiative, both aiming at safeguarding Cairo’s cultural and historical heritage.
