Tracing Journeys II

26/09/15 2pm

Join us for a special family friendly workshop, run by artist Dia Batal, exploring family stories and personal journeys through text and drawing.

As part of our exhibition, Tracing Landscapes, artists Dia Batal will be running two drawing workshops. The workshops will be held in the exhibition room, where participants will have the gallery space to themselves. Tracing Landscapes features a new work done in collaboration with Maya Chami, in which the story of Batal’s grandmother is unfolded through the fragmented narratives of a journey of displacement. The workshops will focus specifically on this work and will aim to tease out a similar narrative, encouraging the participants to create pieces constructed of their own stories and personal journeys while reflecting on notions of identity, home, belonging and memory. These themes will be explored using a variety of techniques resulting in a multi-layered work. Participants can attend a single workshop or develop their work over two sessions.

Dia Batal was born in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1978 where she studied design, before moving to London to complete her MA in Design and Critical Practice at Goldsmiths College. Her work has been shown in collective and solo exhibitions in Beirut, Manama, Amman, Paris, Liverpool and London. Batal has also worked on a number of community outreach projects for institutions such as British Museum, V&A, Iniva and The Mosaic Rooms amongst others. She is based in London.

This is a family friendly workshop open to all.
All materials will be provided by The Mosaic Rooms.

The workshop will run 2-4pm.
