[bread]

22/09/17 5:15 pm

Join Lebanese-based designer and artist Pascal Hachem as he explores his design practise and the cultural rituals of his homeland through Lebanese flatbread – considering it as a design object.

The artist will look at the Lebanese flatbread as a design object, reflecting on its form, origin, composition, sensory appeal and cultural significance. Through the idea of bread as a communal object, he will also use this subject as a means of sharing insights into his other works that use food as a concept. Hachem’s work is inspired by everyday life and common objects, which he uses in new ways to challenge the viewer’s perspective.

Pascal Hachem was born in 1979, Lebanon. He is an artist who conceives each work as a discrete experience, often making interventions in urban spaces and creating sculptural installations in gallery settings. Hachem sets up compelling situations which ask or even demand that the viewer pause and concentrate, take the time to think and work out the visual conundrums he conceives. He sees his work as a manifestation of his response to the world, to the power relations and social situations he relentlessly examines and critiques. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions internationally. Alongside his artistic practice he is co founder of acclaimed product design studio 200grs with Rana Haddad.
