This evening of short films, curated by Myriam Mouflih, seeks to shine a light on women’s lives in postcolonial Morocco through the lens of female filmmakers from the country. It features films by Yto Barrada, Izza Genini, and Asmae El Moudir. The three films chosen explore ideas of interiority and exteriority and womens’ lives in domestic and public space in Morocco. The screening will be followed by a conversation, led by Mouflih, discussing themes raised in the films.

Films included in the programme are:

Aïta – Izza Genini (26 minutes)
Thank God It’s Friday (Mémoires anachroniques, ou le couscous du vendredi midi) – Asmae El Moudir (15 minutes)
The Smuggler – Yto Barrada (18 minutes)

Myriam Mouflih is a programmer and writer. She was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and works in Glasgow, UK. She is Programme Co-ordinator for Africa in Motion Film Festival  Myriam is on the committee of Transmission Gallery and works for the Scottish Contemporary Art Network. Her research focuses on artists’ films from the Global South and the diaspora.
