Jordan Nassar

Online Conversation

16/07/20 6pm

Free

Join artist Jordan Nassar live from his NYC studio and in conversation with curator Rachel Dedman. Nassar will give us an introduction into stitching, show us his latest pieces and talk about future landscapes. He will highlight our artist commission, the Tatreez design and his inspirations from Palestinian culture.

New York based artist of Palestinian descent Jordan Nassar embroiders landscape compositions, which are framed by and built up through repeating patterns adapted from traditional Palestinian motifs. His work imagines an idyllic space: the sort of utopian vision of Palestine held by the displaced constituents that comprise the region’s diaspora.

Rachel Dedman is a curator, writer, and art historian based between Lebanon and London, where she is Jameel Curator of Contemporary Art from the Middle East at the V&A. As an independent curator, recent projects include exhibitions for Ashkal Alwan and Sursock Museum, Beirut Art Center, Dar el-Nimer and Nadim Karam (all Beirut), Kiln Theatre (London), apexart (New York), and the Palestinian Museum (West Bank).
