Praneet Soi

Artist Talk

3/10/19 7pm

Free

Artist Praneet Soi speaks with curator Reem Fadda about his new and existing bodies of work in in The Mosaic Rooms’ current exhibition. The talk will trace his career, recent stays in Palestine as well as his wider practice.

Anamorphosis is the first London solo exhibition by Praneet Soi. Interested in the politics of representation, the artist brings together two bodies of work. One newly created, comprising drawings and video installation based on Soi’s visits to the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Israel in 2019, unfolds his encounters with the people he met there. The other shows recent work from Soi’s immersions in the workshop of a master craftsman in Kashmir. The resulting installation of hand painted tiles includes visuals from Soi’s archive of media images.

Praneet Soi was born 1971, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Following studies in India and the USA, Soi moved to the Netherlands in 2002, and divides his time between Amsterdam and Kolkata. His work is internationally recognised for his explorations of socio-political nuances and media representations. His practice incorporates traditional methods of miniature painting and sculpture, as well as time-based media such as video and sound.

Reem Fadda is a curator and art historian. From 2010 to 2016, Fadda worked at the Guggenheim Museum as Associate Curator, Middle Eastern Art, Abu Dhabi Project. From 2005 to 2007, Fadda was Director of the Palestinian Association for Contemporary Art and served as Academic Director for the International Academy of Art Palestine. She has curated numerous international exhibitions and biennials, including Jerusalem Lives (Tahya Al Quds), The Palestinian Museum, Birzeit (2017); Not New Now and the 6th Marrakech Biennale (2016). She currently works as Director of the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi.
