The Cow
FILM
3/11/18 7pm
Forty-nine years after the production of Dariush Mehrjui’s masterpiece, we are delighted to present a special screening of The Cow in collaboration with the Iranian Film Festival. The film is often cited as the first Iranian New Wave Film. It centres around an old villager Hassan, who is deeply in love with his cow, after he goes to the capital for a while, the cow dies and the villagers are afraid of his possible reaction to it when he returns. They gather together and lie to Hassan about what has happened. But how will Hassan react?
The Cow is based on Gholam-Hossein Saidi’s novel entitled Bayal’s Mourners, and was censored by the Ministry of Culture and Arts, who took over its production, and major changes were required before the film was distributed.
