Come along for the Sunday jams, self-organised sessions by artists and our community, happening in the main gallery as part of sounding towards - -.
Every Sunday between 2–4pm, El Warcha's Common Frequencies opens its doors for public takeovers. This is an invitation to self-organise your own sonic experiments and gatherings, to step up to the decks and spin the record you would like to play, to tune the room to your frequencies.
In the spirit of the jam, the room is yours to shape for two hours at a time. The equipment in the space is yours to use, and you're welcome to bring your own. Our only ask is that your takeover stays in dialogue with the wider project of sounding towards - -.

Jamming with The Listening Biennial – Toward an Infralistening approach
Join us for an afternoon of explorative listening research and sharing led by scholars, organisers and artists Brandon LaBelle, Arman Nouri and Mhamad Safa. The event integrates the launch of The Listening Biennial Reader, vol. 2, published by Errant Bodies Press. Editor and contributing authors Brandon LaBelle and Mhamad Safa will introduce the publication and The Listening Biennial project, sharing insights into their individual research and inviting collective discussion on listening cultures and related notions of Infralistening. They will be joined by Arman Nouri, who will contribute a short workshop, activating questions on surveillance and attention through creative writing and electromagnetic listening. RSVP

Workshop | An Ear to the City: What does a city sound like from afar?
With Hasina Zadran and Alankriti Gopinatha
An Ear to the City is a participatory workshop on how a city sounds from afar. How do we build a city from what we hear? Listen, map and layer sounds to compose an alternative soundscape of a city and help shape a collective zine. Bring a sound from a place close to your heart. No experience needed. RSVP.

Sampling dumplings | Sounding out a Grammar of Solidarity
Part 1: RSVP for dumpling-making and lunch from 1pm, followed by participatory sound improvisation from 2pm.
Gatherings begin with nourishment and conversation. Taking time to touch down and sync up, as we make dumplings and meditate on sound and solidarity. This is followed by workshopping different ways to express ecological grief through graphic scores, reading, writing, vocalisations, instrumentation and gesture for the second half. There, we will close the doors and open ourselves up to release these offerings and expressions.
Sharing is not a prerequisite; all forms of expression are valid and valued; being present is enough.
RSVP from 1pm, which includes dumpling-making, as well as participatory sound-making.
Part 2: RSVP participatory soundmaking from 2pm.
Through weaving solidarity into graphic scores, reading, writing, vocalisations, instrumentation and gesture, Samplings Dumplings invites participants to explore different ways to collectively express and process ecological grief.
Sharing sounds is not a prerequisite; all forms of expression are valid and valued: being present is enough.

RITO | Islands Above, Roots Below
EDITH (voice, synthesiser), KANGSAN (percussion), SEAYOOL (piri, percussion)
Three islands stand apart in the room. On each, a member of RITO, a London-based collective reimagining Korean tradition as contemporary ritual, holds a different musical dialect.
In Korean traditional music, tori is the melodic grammar of a region: the way a place bends a note, carries a breath, holds its memory in sound. Each tori belongs somewhere. In this session, RITO places these dialects on separate islands and lets the space between them become the sea, a body of sound where signals travel, voices cross, and boundaries begin to dissolve.
Through piri, Korean percussion and live electronics, the journey moves from arrival to descent to convergence. A blessing chant offers good fortune to the homes of those gathered. Rhythms from samulnori invite the room to move as one. Three poems surface between and within the music, like messages passed from shore to shore.
Above the water, we are islands. Beneath it, we may share the same roots. RSVP

Imperio Bamba
Imperio
Bamba take over the Sunday jam space to improvise and practice the
soundings of the House of Bamba, the literal and symbolic house where
members of the band live and where they meet to compose and rehearse.
The House of Bamba sounds like cumbia and festejo, like tumbao and salsa
— they will be embodying these sounds and sharing their ever-evolving
songs. Expect to hear some of the band's most cherished records, and to
join them in singing in a shared moment of enjoyment that aims to help
us all sustain our hopes for better and broader futures. RSVP

Radio Iso Sunday Jam
Radio
Iso(lation) started over Zoom during the pandemic; a deep listening and
music sharing group that has since grown into a loose collective of
music makers, DJs and listeners. We'll explore the installation's
instruments and archives with an open minded and relaxed approach to
collective sound making. All abilities welcome. Drop in

Ambient Gaza | Living Maps in Sound & Texture
This session combines engaged listening with touch, guided by an audio tour of Gaza – from singing on the beach, to a beloved bookshop in Gaza City, to an aunt's farmland in Rafah. Participants can feel those words on a huge hand embroidered banner and leave written responses to communities speaking from a Gaza still under siege. Afterwards, join art collective Ambient Gaza and textile artist Rim Irscheid for a conversation on how we engage with Gazan life, push back against dehumanising media narratives, and co-create vocabulary for agency and hope. Vania Gonzalvez | Sounding Towards Home
This session is a gentle gathering for families, where listening becomes a way of being together. Drawing from music that has accompanied our own family life, the session invites families to listen, dance, rest, play, and respond however they wish. RSVP required

Amna Shabana | Restoring Memories of Home
Led by Palestinian artist and researcher, in this jam participants will explore how memories of home can be preserved, understood, and reactivated through creative practice. Drawing on research developed during her dissertation at University College London (UCL), Amna has created an artistic method that combines mental and physical processes of remembering. Through guided exercises, participants will explore the layers of memory, reconnect with personal experiences of home, and creatively resist the erasure of memory caused by displacement, migration, and war. Juice & Junze Zhang | Speaking Nearby
This session is a participatory workshop and collective performance exploring how listening can create temporary communities. Participants collect voices, environmental sounds and everyday sonic fragments from within and around Mosaic Rooms, before transforming recycled materials and simple audio components into portable sound devices.
