Larissa Sansour: Archaeology in Absentia – Dead Sea

Year: 2016
Image Size: 29 cm x 30 cm
Edition of 20
Unframed and sold as a pair.

A pair of photographs taken by the artist Larissa Sansour and printed on the occasion of the exhibition In the Future They Ate from the Finest Porcelain. Sansour buried hand-painted porcelain plates with folkloric patterns in five different sites in Palestine. This pair of photographs form the documentary trace of this act and deposit at the Dead Sea. This site and the other four provide the co-ordinates which are engraved on the individual munitions replicas in the larger installation Archaeology in Absentia. The objects refer to these absent artefacts and a historical intervention yet to be unearthed.
