BOOK LAUNCH

C.A.S.A. Casablanca Art School Archives

10 June 2026, 7pm

Join us for a special book launch of C.A.S.A. Casablanca Art School Archives 1962–1987 presented by co-editor and publisher Morad Montazami. C.A.S.A. is a landmark publication bringing together nearly ten years of research — archives, foundational texts, testimonials and contemporary essays — telling the story of the Casablanca Art School.

Following Morocco's independence in 1956, artist-teachers and students at the Casablanca Art School radically rethought art and art education in their country. Beyond a core group of figures — Farid Belkahia, Mohammed Chabâa, Bert Flint, Toni Maraini, Mohamed Melehi — a whole constellation of artist-activists drew on Moroccan and Afro-Amazigh heritage to forge new forms of abstract art. They introduced art into everyday life through paintings, posters, magazines, interior designs, murals and street exhibitions, while cultivating political solidarity across Africa and South America.
