Explore the connections between sleep, dream, desire and the digital realm in this conversation with artists and researchers Bahar Noorizadeh and Zach Blas, moderated by Matthew Fuller.

About the speakers

Bahar Noorizadeh is an artist, writer and filmmaker. Her research examines the historical advance of speculative activity and its derivative politics in art, urban life, and finance and economics. Noorizadeh is the founder of Weird Economies, an online art platform that traces economic imaginaries extraordinary to financial arrangements of our time. More about Bahar Noorizadeh

Zach Blas is an artist, filmmaker, writer, and Assistant Professor of Visual Studies at the University of Toronto. His practice spans installation, moving image, computation, theory, and performance. Recent exhibitions include the 12th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art; British Art Show 9; Positions #6, Van Abbemuseum; Uncanny Valley: Being Human in the Age of AI at the de Young Museum; The Body Electric at the Walker Art Center; and the 12th Gwangju Biennale. His 2021 artist monograph Unknown Ideals is published by Sternberg Press. More about Zach Blas

Matthew Fuller works on art, science, politics and aesthetics. His books include How to Sleep: The Art, Biology and Culture of Unconsciousness (Bloomsbury 2018), How to Be a Geek: Essays on the Culture of Software (Polity 2017), with Olga Goriunova, Bleak Joys: Aesthetics of Ecology and Impossibility (Minnesota 2019) and with Eyal Weizman, Investigative Aesthetics: Conflicts and Commons in the Politics of Truth (Verso 2021). With Shu Lea Cheang, he has developed a series of short and longer term events of art by sleepers, art for sleepers and art as sleep. He is Professor of Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London and part of the editorial collective of Computational Culture, a journal of software studies.
