Contemporary Dance Performance: The Moment
25/02/16 7:30 pm
The Moment is a high-octane energetic solo dance performance created during a month-long residency in Morocco. It is an exploration of part of Salah’s own personal spiritual journey, exploring the state of mind in being able to understand beyond the obvious, in being able to interpret meaning beyond the everyday both physically and mentally. Salah aims to share The Moment in order to create an interactive environment with the audience, whilst also engaging with the artworks in the exhibition space.
Dancer, performer and choreographer Salah El Brogy is a graduate of the Cairo Opera House Contemporary Dance Theatre School, where he trained in dance, acting, singing, theatre and music. He started his life with martial arts/kung fu then went on to do hip hop/street dance, ballet, folklore, Latin, jazz, contemporary and capoeira. He choreographed his first production in 2007 entitled Incidents Change but the Meaning is One. In 2008, the French Cultural Institute in Cairo (now French Institute) awarded him the Best Dancer Award for his part in The Newspaper and the following year, he choreographed, performed and toured his solo Adrenalin in Lebanon, UK, France and Egypt. He was lead dancer for Akram Khan Company’s critically-acclaimed ensemble Vertical Road, before setting up his own (Salah El Brogy Company) in 2013 and has been nominated for Dance London’s 2015 Emerging Choreographer Award.
The performance will be followed by a Q&A with Salah El Brogy.
