Persian Poets’
3/05/12
The Mosaic Rooms is delighted to present a very special evening, in collaboration with The Poetry Translation Centre, as we host the first night of their Persian Poets’ Tour on:
Thursday 3rd May 2012, 7pm
This tour features five acclaimed poets from three countries. This will be the first chance to meet the poets, hear them read their poems, and buy their new chapbooks.
Persian poetry is rightly famed for the richness of its heritage and many classical Persian poets, such as Rumi and Hafez, are famous across the world. But little is known about how contemporary Persian-language poets have continued to enrich and enliven their tradition, a gap that this event hopes to address.
The Persian language, with local variations, is spoken today in three countries: Afghanistan (Dari), Iran (Farsi) and Tajikistan (Tajik) and the tour will feature poets from each of these countries:
Partaw Naderi from Afghanistan
Farzaneh Khojandi from Tajikistan
Reza Mohammadithe London-based Afghan poet
Azita Ghahreman from Iran
Shakila Azizzada from Afghanistan
The readings will be done in the poets’ Persian languages, with readings in English by Sarah Maguire, Director of The Poetry Translation Centre.
