Book Launch: According to Kahil
2/07/15 7pm

The Mosaic Rooms are pleased to present the London book launch of According to Kahil, a retrospective publication of editorial cartoons by the renowned Lebanese cartoonist Mahmoud Kahil.
According to Kahil is a bilingual publication spanning decades of work commenting on a wide variety of issues ranging from freedom of expression and the press in the Arab World to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Mahmoud Kahil’s work carries a striking resonance that, in some instances, is still relevant today. Kahil was a visual journalist, educating as much as entertaining. Whether his readers agreed or disagreed with Kahil’s views, his cartoons left a lasting impression. They were intelligent, sometimes painful and often amusing, but above all, always insightful and thought-provoking.
To celebrate the launch of this important publication writer, editor and curator Malu Halasa, will be in conversation with British satirist and cartoonist, Martin Rowson. The two will discuss the work and legacy of Mahmoud Kahil.
Martin Rowson is a British cartoonist and author. His cartoons appear frequently in The Guardian and The Daily Mirror. He also contributes freelance cartoons to other publications, such as Tribune, Index On Censorship and The Morning Star.
Malu Halasa is an editor, writer and curator based in London. Her books include Syria Speaks: Art and Culture from the Frontline, The Secret Life of Syrian Lingerie: Intimacy and Design, Creating Spaces of Freedom: Culture in Defiance and Kaveh Golestan: Recording the Truth in Iran. Her essays, publications, exhibitions and lectures showcase the culture and politics of a complex and changing Middle East.
The book will be available to purchase for a special event price of £30.
