From Debt to Dedication, From Performance to Perfume
Opening Talks

“How to pay your debt to the previous generation? Will you take on their pain? If so, can you transform it? Perhaps into a body of abstractions with a different perfume.”
Art critic and cultural theorist Jan Verwoert is in conversation with artist Ronak Moshtaghi. Moshtaghi will discuss her work, Late Poem Surrounded by Friends currently on show in the exhibition, and the scenes of urgency that makes one revisit the past which has fallen into ruin.
Jan Verwoert (b.1972) is an art critic based in Berlin. He is a contributing editor to Frieze magazine and writes regularly about contemporary art for such magazines as Afterall and Metropolis M. Currently Jan is teaching in the MA Fine Arts department at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam.
Ronak Moshtaghi is an artist based in Oslo. The constant negotiation between the work of art to its background and the context it is presented in is one of the reappearing themes in her work. The process in which feelings and experiences are trapped or passed on through fantasy and frustrations. Being part of several collaborative and individual projects, she makes works with different medias such as installation, drawing, sound and dance performance.
This event is part of the public programme accompanying the exhibition When Legacies Become Debts, curated by Azar Mahmoudian.
