Portrait of a Territory is a book of photographs of the Arab Emirates coastline taken between 2004 and 2011 by artist Ziad Antar. The project is based on an American-style road trip. In 2004 the artist set out to drive around the Emirates, following the coast. However, he always kept a distance from his subjects, not framing specific details, even though they are visible in many of his photographs. He is interested in the effect that man has on landscape, in what comes after the human, and not in individuals, who appear only rarely in images.
