Collective mother tongues use the exhibition’s archives to explore multi-lingual solidarities in this collaborative translation workshop.
The collective playfully looks at printed materials in the exhibition’s archive and library room. mother tongues’ approach embraces the co-existence of multiple languages and embodied knowledges. They explore the process of translation, literary production and using speculative approaches to working with archives.
mother tongues is a transdisciplinary research-led project applying decolonial, feminist and queer pedagogies exploring language and identity. Their practice responds to language’s impact on personal and collective empowerment and aims for the democratisation of archival collections and knowledge production. mother tongues is formed collaboratively by Vania Gonzalvez, Kaya Birch-Skerritt and Marina Georgiou.
