Participate in a workshop led by Shadow Sistxrs Fight Club using self defense and herbalism to explore how we can grow a stronger connection to our first instinct. Try Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a tool for self-defence, and community building, and local herbs for gut and embodied healing.
Shadow Sistxrs ask: How do our bodies respond to oppression? However we are silenced – politically, physically, vocally – the response is often the same. We dissociate, often losing contact with ourselves. In a climate of fear social anxiety, learning to trust ourselves can be a difficult task. Cut off from nature, our senses bombarded and our communities exposed to violence, Shadow Sistxrs propose that we must grow closer to our first instinct, develop trust in our selves, within and between our communities, so that we may seek justice, freedom and peace.
Shadow Sistxrs Fight Club was founded by Venus and Bones as a self defense class for women, non binary people and QTIPoC, combining martial arts and magical/medicinal herbalism for community ritual and collective healing. Fertile Souls is their community apothecary and survival skill share community.
Venus is a sex worker, performance artist and facilitator, with a Black Belt in Karate and a Purple Belt On Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. She is founder of Sex and Rage, a second worker and activist led organisation resisting stigma and shame through sex education. She studies politics and philosophy. More about Venus
