22/01/13
Join us for a special concert of harp and percussion with the Kurdish musician Tara Jaff on:
Tuesday January 22nd, 7pm
Tara Jaff fuses traditional Kurdish songs with lyrics of both contemporary and classical Kurdish poets. The melodies and harp arrangements are played in an innovative style, marrying music and poetry and adapting it to the musical traditions of the region. Tara will be joined by Arya Zakri, accompanying with percussion instruments: Tombak, Dayireh and Daf.
Tara will play two 45 minute sets with a 15 minute interval.
Originally from Halabia, Kurdistan of Iraq, Tara Jaff has been living in the UK since 1976. Over the years she experimented with different string instruments but her fascination for the ancient Iranian Chang and the harps of Mesopotamia led her to the contemporary Celtic harp. Embracing this instrument she introduced it to Kurdish music, developing her own unique style of playing. Visit Tara’s website here.
