Yang Lian awarded Nonino International Prize for Literature

Chinese poet Yang Lian has just been awarded the Nonino International Prize for Literature. The Jury of the Nonino Prize, presided by V.S. Naipaul, Nobel Laureate for Literature 2001, included Adonis, Peter Brook, John Banville, Ulderico Bernardi, Luca Cendali, Antonio R.Damasio, Emmanuel Le Roy Ladurie, James Lovelock, Claudio Magris, Norman Manea, Morando Morandini, Edgar Morin and Ermanno Olmi. Yang Lian will be speaking with Adonis at The Mosaic Rooms on the 8th February as part of our Tribute to Adonis literary programme. They will be discussing the role of the intellectual in society, and reflecting on literature and revolution and the influence of English Modernism on Arabic poetry.
