Join us for the opening of ARABÉCÉDAIRE, an exhibition of the modernist painter Hamed Abdalla, curated by Morad Montazami. This evening marks the launch of The Mosaic Rooms’ tenth anniversary programme, a series of six exhibitions presenting modernist and contemporary art from Egypt, Iran and Morocco in collaboration with regional curators and institutions.
This solo exhibition is dedicated to the influential Egyptian modernist painter Hamed Abdalla (1917-1985). ARABÉCÉDAIRE explores Abdalla’s extensive archives and library, looking at him both as an artist and as a researcher. Curated by Morad Montazami, this is the first exhibition in the UK of this significant Egyptian artist.
ARABÉCÉDAIRE is the first in this special programme of exhibitions celebrating ten years of The Mosaic Rooms. The exhibition forms the first of a three part series curated by Morad Montazami entitled Cosmic Roads: Relocating Modernism presenting important modernist artists from three countries, Egypt, Iran and Morocco. The programme will also feature a series of group shows of contemporary art from these three countries organised in partnership with regional institutions and curators.
