How to Paint Miniatures

Artist Quratulain Shams leads a workshop on miniature painting techniques. Shams trained in traditional miniature painting techniques at the National College of Art Lahore Pakistan, a renowned centre for the teaching of this ancient artistic tradition. In the three hour workshop Shams will introduce the traditional techniques involved in creating miniatures. Participants will have the opportunity to try out some of the different techniques and apply them in beginning their own miniature. In line with the teaching tradition of miniature, in which students begin through learning how to recreate images from the early illustrated text Padshahnama, participants will work with images from this text to practice their skills. This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged 12 upwards.
Quratulain Shams specialized in miniature painting at The National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan. She continues with her own artistic practice and also teaches at the college as a visiting lecturer in the Department of Cultural studies.
