Following the weekend screening of Our Beloved Sudan as part of our series entitled Sofa Cinema we’ll be talking to Tahgred Elsanhouri live via ZOOM. Tahgred will discuss the film, her cinematic body of work as well as share wider reflections about filmmaking in Sudan.

Taghred Elsanhouri is an independent director, researcher and writer in London. In her work she addresses political and social transformations with a documentary yet personal lens. Interested in the role of art as tool in peace-building, mediation and in truth and reconciliation processes, Elsanhouri focuses her work on Sudan. She is known for her films Our beloved Sudan (2011), Mother Unknown (2009), The Orphans of Mygoma (2008), and All About Darfur (2005). Her debut documentary feature All about Darfur premiered at Toronto film festival 2005, received the award of the American Anthropological Association and was also awarded at the Zanzibar International Film Festival. Elsanhouri is also the founder and director of the Sudan Cultural Healing Film Festival and organized a number of cultural projects in Sudan and London. Our beloved Sudan won the Luxor Film Festival Silver Jury Award 2011.
