My Dream ‘Hoash’

Workshop for Families

14/10/23 2pm

Free

RSVP below for this in-person event.

Join Space Black to re-imagine the gardens of The Mosaic Rooms as their own utopian, dream ‘Hoash’ or courtyard. The workshop will incorporate model-making skills to help participants create a small scale model of their own dream courtyard.

The ‘Hoash’ is Arabic for courtyard space, it’s commonly implemented into residential Sudanese architecture. These courtyards are architecturally designed to provide a private outdoor space for gathering, celebration and everyday home activities but also engineered to cool homes in hot climates. On an urban scale we see the ‘Hoash’ scale up to create ‘Meedans’/public town squares, places of communal prayer, collective play and revolution.

How will you transform The Mosaic Rooms garden into your dream Hoash?

Space Black activates Tools for Solidarity; an interactive play space co-designed by RESOLVE Collective and children from Earl’s Court Youth Club and three school groups at the A.M. Qattan Foundation in Ramallah, Palestine.

This workshop will be developed into a lesson plan, a self-guided activity for children and families to use in The Mosaic Rooms garden and beyond. Check out and create with Lesson Plans.

All materials will be provided. Suitable for age 4-11. Parents or carers must accompany their children.

Space Black is a creative studio of Black built-environment professionals that proposes a new spatial future for marginalised communities through education, concept design and culture.
