Palestine: The Reality

Film

2/11/17 7pm

November 2nd 2017 marks 100 years since the Balfour Declaration, a British policy paper in which the then Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour gave Britain’s written support for the establishment of a Jewish homeland in historic Palestine. The implementation of the document changed not only the demographic map of the region but also its social and political landscape. A century on, its impact is felt not only in Palestine and Israel but also throughout the wider region.

The Mosaic Rooms present a world premiere of a new documentary by Karl SabbaghPalestine: The Reality is a very personal documentary on the document which left devastating consequences in the Middle East. Sabbagh describes the film as an attempt to reveal the truth, as set out in official documents, memoirs and writings by the people involved. The documentary concludes with a revised ‘Balfour Declaration’ pledging the same rights to Palestinians as were given to Jews 100 years ago.

The event will conclude with a post screening Q&A with Karl Sabbagh.

Karl Sabbagh is a British Palestinian, the son of a Palestinian broadcaster from Safad in the Galilee. He was educated at Cambridge and worked in the BBC for fifteen years before becoming an independent documentary producer, making factual programmes and series for the BBC, Channel 4 and PBS in the USA. He is also a writer of non-fiction books and a publisher.
