Join journalist and writer Donald Macintyre in conversation about his book Gaza: Preparing for Dawn. From the notorious camps to factories struggling under economic stranglehold and bombardment, Macintyre brings empathy to an honest and revealing portrait of Gaza. Macintyre will be in conversation with Dr James Rodgers.
In Gaza: Preparing for Dawn, Donald Macintyre brings a lucid and informed portrait of Gaza – encompassing the tragedy but also the hope, albeit increasingly fragile, for normality. Primarily through the stories of its people, he explains how Gaza became what it is today.
Donald Macintyre was the Independent’s Jerusalem bureau chief for eight years between 2004 and 2012 and a former presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Week in Westminster. He won the Next Century Foundation’s Peace through Media Prize in 2011 and has previously been shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Journalism and for the Martha Gellhorn Journalism Award. He lives in Clapham, London.
Dr James Rodgers spent twenty years as a journalist: five for Reuters Television, and fifteen for the BBC where he worked as a reporter, editor, producer, and presenter. He spent most of his BBC career (1995-2010) as a foreign correspondent, completing postings in Moscow, Gaza, and Brussels.
