The Mosaic Rooms and Maqam Books invite Dirar Kalash to host a second reading session and discussion of Memory for Forgetfulness by Mahmoud Darwish.

We will be focusing on the concepts of time (history) and space (geography) and their position in the process of knowledge production on the current situation in Palestine in particular, not only as a theory, but also as a consciousness, taking off from a multi-layered reading of Memory for Forgetfulness; analysing possible relationships among lived experience, the writing of history, event, and language – from writing the Nakba from a sonic and aural perspective, and through the transformations of time and space in Palestine.

Dirar Kalash (b. 1982) is a musician and sound artist whose work spans a wide range of musical and sonic practices within a variety of instrumental, compositional and improvisational contexts. Kalash also extends his practice into inter-disciplinary theoretical research. he has produced several solo and collaborative musical albums and is active as touring musician, in addition to that he also created several sound installations, live audio-visual performances, and photography projects.

Born at a time where Arabic language books are becoming increasingly expensive, Maqam مقام is a locally owned independent bookshop and community space in London that is dedicated to offering a quality selection of affordable literature across many genres.
