Zaytoun Supperclub
Supperclub
1/03/18 7pm
£35.00
Join us for a very special collaborative supper club with Damascus Chef and Palestinian fair-trade food suppliers Zaytoun.
Share maftoul and other delicious Palestinian dishes served in a communal environment on rugs and cushions in our main exhibition room. Experience the true essence of eating and sharing food and stories together.
The meal will be prepared by Abdullah Al Awayed, head chef at Damascus Chef. Abdullah grew up in in a small farming village in Syria. Life revolved around raising and tending to the ingredients and the overarching importance of making and sharing food was ingrained in the whole community. This supper will bring the spirit of sharing Abdullah grew up with to The Mosaic Rooms.
On the evening we will also be joined by Bassema Barahmeh, a maftoul and olive oil producer for Zaytoun. Bassema is visiting from Palestine and will share her experiences of farming and agriculture in the West Bank.
Abdullah Al Awayed is head chef at Damascus Chef. As a sous chef, and eventually a hotel manager in the old city of Damascus, he learned the versatility of each ingredient, without losing touch with his instincts for foraging, herding, growing and rearing his own ingredients and the Bedouin kitchen lore of his childhood. He runs a regular supper club pop up with his partner Fabienne.
Zaytoun was founded in 2004 to support the resilience and livelihoods of Palestinian farmers under occupation through fairly trading their olive oil. Initially funded by hundreds of customers who put up payment in advance of receiving their oil, Zaytoun quickly established itself as a UK social enterprise. Today Zaytoun offers a wide range of Palestinian artisan foods, continuing to support Palestinian farmers.
