Bisan Abu-Eisheh
Lecture Performance
30/10/19 7pm
FreeArtist Bisan Abu-Eisheh presents a lecture performance in which he will juxtapose the reality of life after the Oslo-agreement with Palestinian visual art practices.
The lecture performance is largely informed by Abu Eisheh’s PhD research, Re-imagining Palestinian Art Post-Oslo-Agreement. The collapse of the Oslo-agreement resulted in an obscured and fragmented knowledge about Palestine and its people. Abu-Eishah has been meeting with Palestinian artists across different geographies, documenting and analysing the discussions that come about. His project aspires to collect truths that are lost within mainstream political discourses. Through this he will reflect on issues of national identity, mobility, migration and socio-political injustice, particularly in the Palestinian context.
Bisan Abu Eisheh’s practice is situated within the gallery space and the public sphere, his work attempts to create a shared awareness for himself as well as his audience about details that get lost within grand narratives. For him, art is a tool to investigate history, society and politics. For his PhD research, Abu Eisheh is investigating how the political situation resulted from the Oslo Agreement, politicises art practices within the Palestinian context.
