TOUR
10/05/18 7pm
FreeExplore our current exhibition of the Egyptian modernist painter Hamed Abdalla in a different way in a special tour led by curator Rose Lejeune in conversation with designer and researcher Dr Danah Abdulla.
Rose and Danah will look at typography and design in the work of Hamed Abdalla and at the relationship between the artwork and archival material in the exhibition. They will look at how Abdalla reflects on the colonial and transnational contexts in which he was making work, and relate this to contemporary artistic practices and contexts.
Rose Lejeune is a curator and researcher, she works with public institutions and private individuals to explore collecting contemporary art. She specialises in context-based, social and performative practices. She runs Collecting the Ephemeral a consultancy, commissioning and research project which explores how artists who use these practices can be represented in collections and how artists can re-imagine collections through interactions with them.
Danah Abdulla is a lecturer on Design Management and Cultures at the London College of Communication. She is founder of Kalimat Magazine, an independent magazine about Arab thought and culture. She is a also a founding member of the design platform Decolonising Design.
