Shubbak Family Day

Make art with artist Dia Batal, take part in a cooking workshop with Damascus Chef and join in interactive story telling with Elias Matar in this day of family fun at The Mosaic Rooms for Shubbak Festival. Families will try different activities in The Mosaic Rooms galleries and in the urban garden check times below to find out what activities are on at what time. You will also be able to create your own part of a large collective art work. This event is part of Shubbak Festival.

11.30 – 12.30 Damascus Chef Abdullah leads a children’s cookery workshop, families will be be shown how to make delicious healthy snacks to enjoy together.

14.00 – 15.00 Story teller Elias Matar unfolds a magical tale in The Mosaic Rooms garden.

11.00 – 17.00 Throughout the day families can join in art activities led by Dia Batal.

Please note places for cooking workshop are limited – places will be allocated in order of arrival.

Suitable for children aged 4+. All children must be accompanied by parents/carers throughout the session.
This is a FREE session but please do RSVP, and inform us in case of cancellation.

About Dia Batal
Dia Batal is a multidisciplinary artist who uses Arabic language and text to produce context specific artworks that echo cultural and contemporary concerns into both public and private urban spaces. Dia also curates The Mosaic Rooms family events programme.

About Elias Matar
Elias Matar is a Palestinian play specialist, drama therapist, workshop facilitator, performer and founder of the El Bayet Centre for Performing Arts & Drama Therapy. Elias holds an MA in Drama and Movement Therapy from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London. Prior to this qualification, he attained a Social Theatre BA.

About Damascus Chef
Abdullah Al Awayed is head chef at Damascus Chef. As a sous chef, and eventually a hotel manager in the old city of Damascus, he learned the versatility of each ingredient, without losing touch with his instincts for foraging, herding, growing and rearing his own ingredients and the Bedouin kitchen lore of his childhood. He runs a regular supper club pop up with his partner Fabienne.
