This tribute to Iranian poet and filmmaker Forough Farrokhzad features a screening of her acclaimed film The House is Black with readings of her poetry in English and Farsi.

In The House is Black, Forough Farrokhzad takes an intimate look inside a leprosy colony in Tebriz, Iran. With stories from these forgotten people accented by poetic voiceover from Farrokhzad, the film digs deep into the heart of hopelessness within the human spirit.

Forough Farrokhzad was an Iranian poet and film director. Forugh Farrokhzad is arguably one of Iran’s most influential female poets of the twentieth century. She was a an artistic soulmate of Behjat Sadr, they both travelled together between Tehran and Rome. Each of them experiment with with concept of ‘blackness’ in painting and in poetry.
