The Reader – reading Sudanese poetry
Reading Group
17/03/21 6pm
Free
Join The Mosaic Rooms and The Reader to read poetry by modern Sudanese poets. We’ll be reading poems from the Anthology of Modern Sudanese Poetry (Nebraska, 2019), translated and edited by Adil Babikir.
You’ll also have a short introduction to the artist Heba Y. Amin’s work and her exhibition at The Mosaic Rooms: When I see the future, I close my eyes. Najia Bagi, The Mosaic Rooms’ learning curator, will show views of the exhibition and talk about the subjects the artist is exploring. Some of the poems we will read at the event will connect to the themes in the exhibition.
We will read selected poems from the book in small break-out groups, slowly and aloud together, guided by a leader from The Reader. The text will be provided for the session online, so you don’t have to have the book to take part.
To find out more, you can read an introduction to the poetry collection here. If you are interested in buying your own copy, you can view it in our bookshop here.
This is a partnership event with The Reader.
The Reader is a UK charity that wants to bring about a Reading Revolution, so that everyone can experience and enjoy great literature, which they believe is a tool for helping humans survive and live well.
