Walk This Way with The Dazzle Club

Workshop

24/05/21 6:30 pm

£15.00

Learn how to confront surveillance technology in The Mosaic Rooms’ first in person event this year, led by artists, The Dazzle Club. This workshop takes place in The Mosaic Rooms garden, materials are included in the ticket price.

Artists from The Dazzle Club invite you to create your own CV Dazzle designs in order to frustrate facial recognition technology* and investigate the surveillance environment of South Kensington. The activity is designed by The Dazzle Club in response to themes of surveillance and control in the current exhibition by Heba Y. Amin.

The workshop will include an introduction to facial recognition, readings from recent research, a silent walk, and a discussion about being watched and/or seen.

Numbers are limited. The Mosaic Rooms asks guests to follow social distancing guidelines whilst participating in the event.

*Biometric-based person recognition methods have been extensively explored for various applications, such as access control, surveillance, and forensics. Biometric verification involves any means by which a person can be uniquely identified through biological traits such as facial features, fingerprints, hand geometry, and gait, which is a person’s manner of walking.

The Dazzle Club is a London-based group of artists-activists performing in public space with dazzle camouflage to challenge new surveillance technologies such as facial recognition and to fight racial bias. The members organise silent walks while wearing assymetrical makeup in patterns to prevent their faces being matched on any database.
